Shipping Value of Items

As always, shipping is an essential component of Harvest Moon.  You can sell items to Sam at any time of the day when his stall is open and receive the money immediately but you do need to ship items in order to unlock specific Memories.  Some items yield very little profit when shipped.  If you study the list of prices, you will see which items should be shipped only once.  For example, Apple Jam gives NO profit at all as you need both Sugar and an Apple to make it.  If you ship a raw Apple, you obtain 150G.  If you ship Apple Jam, you receive 170G but the price of the Sugar is 30G so you essentially have a loss here.  The value of Apple Jam is to eat it or give it as a Gift, not to ship it.  If you want to make Jam to ship and make a profit, use Strawberries.  They ship only for 50G but as Jam, ship for 170G.

Remember that Strawberries always are the Most Favourite Gift of the Harvest Goddess.  Grow many of them.  Sadly, no Crops in this game allow multiple harvests, however.

Processed Ores and Gems, however, are good profit items.  You have to pay Brutus a processing fee in each case but it is worth it.  Note that you will need building materials in bulk to upgrade your House... see my Shop Guide for details on how many of each you will need.  Other than that, you can ship them or give them as gifts.  I have found that quite a number of individuals are quite happy to receive Glass Material as a gift.

N.B.  You really do take a loss if you ship unprocessed Ores and Gems rather than paying Brutus to process them first.  For example, although Orichalcum Ore and Adamantite Ore both ship for 250G each, the shipping value of Orichalcum is only 700G while that of Adamantite is 900G.  Furthermore, Brutus charges the SAME price for processing each of these (500G).  Agate incidentally ships for 900G while the Ore ships only for 250G.  It has the same value as Adamantite basically.

Seasons and their Effects
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You can grow any Crop or Flower in any Season but they really do have specific growing Seasons.  You probably are more likely to obtain a very high quality Crop if you grow it in its own season, but as people love specific Crops and Flowers, one tends to grow some of each in every season in order to have Gifts for every one.

Some Fish, like the Perch are designated as season-specific in their descriptions.  According to its description, it can be caught in Spring or Autumn.
